The Sport-Tek YST5000 Youth PosiCharge Reversible Mesh Tank is not just another mesh tank. What "reversible" actually gets you
Reversibility on this tank isn't a marketing flourish. The construction is a real double-layer build: two independent mesh layers, individually hemmed, that both function as the outside surface when the tank is flipped one way or the other. The inside layer is a different color than the outside layer, which is what makes the two-team scrimmage work. Coaches at practice hand out YST5000s to a group of kids, split them into teams, tell half to wear them inside out, and now you have red versus blue on the same shirt inventory. When it's game time or practice is over, they wear it right side out with any team decoration you've printed on it. Print both sides, because both sides show
The other thing the double-layer construction does is give you two independent decoration surfaces. Because both layers are individually hemmed and open at the sides, a decorator can print or heat-press on the inside layer without the ink bleeding through to the outside, and vice versa. What that means practically: you can put your team logo on one color side and your team name on the other, or your team logo on both sides but in coordinating colors, or numbers on one side and a sponsor logo on the other. When the tank is flipped, both decorations still read correctly. Most tanks don't let you do this. The YST5000 was engineered for it.
Open-holed mesh, in plain language
Open-holed mesh is exactly what it sounds like: the fabric knit leaves visible holes between the yarns rather than a tight, closed weave. The purpose is airflow. In basketball, in wrestling practice, in a hot gym in July, at a summer soccer scrimmage in mid-afternoon heat, an open-hole mesh moves substantially more air across the skin than a solid interlock or jersey. It's the reason mesh tanks are the default for basketball specifically. The YST5000 is 3.4 oz of 100% polyester in this open-holed construction, which puts it at the light end of Sport-Tek's performance lineup (the closed-weave Competitor tees run 3.8 oz). The tradeoff is that mesh doesn't offer much sun protection (you can see through it), and it doesn't hide much of what's underneath, so it's built as a purpose-specific athletic piece rather than an all-purpose top.
The PosiCharge story, briefly
The YST5000 uses Sport-Tek's PosiCharge color-locking treatment, the same fabric technology that anchors the rest of the Sport-Tek Competitor family. In brief, it's a treatment applied to the polyester yarn that helps the fiber hold dye, so the color of both the tank itself and any decoration printed on it stays vibrant through repeated washing rather than fading toward gray. The construction is 3.4 oz open-hole 100% polyester mesh, double-layer with the two colors on the two sides, individually hemmed at each layer for the reversible functionality, tear-away label. There's no drawcord and there's no rib or cuff finish (it's a tank, not a tee). The neckline and armholes are open athletic cuts sized for youth active range of motion.
