Is the PC54 good for DTG printing? Yes — 100% cotton is the preferred fabric for DTG, and the PC54 delivers consistent results. For lighter colors, no pre-treatment is typically needed. For darker colors, pre-treating is recommended to ensure proper ink adhesion and vibrancy. Note that heather and neon colors in the 50/50 blend may yield different results than solid cotton colorways, so it's worth running a test print on blended colors before a full production run.
Why do some colors have different fabric blends? Cotton doesn't absorb certain dyes as well as poly-blended fabrics. Neon and heather colors require a poly content to achieve the right color saturation and consistency — that's why those colorways use a 50/50 blend. The blend breakdown for each color category is shown in the chart above.
What's the difference between the PC54 and the PC61? The PC54 is a 5.4 oz. open-end cotton tee at the lowest price point in the Port & Company lineup. The PC61 uses ring-spun cotton for a noticeably softer hand feel at a slight price premium. If soft hand feel matters for your end customer — retail-style programs, premium merch, or anything worn close to the skin — the PC61 is worth the upgrade. For high-volume, price-sensitive programs like events and fundraisers, the PC54 is the stronger value.
